Our field of interest is the application of Extra-Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) in severe acute respiratory failure (e.g. study on extracorporeal lung support in patients with ARDS and as a bridge to lung transplantation), in cardiogenic shock and heart failure (e.g. study on short and medium-term cardio-circulatory support for patients with severe cardiac or circulatory failure). We are conducting researches on life-fluidics for critical care area (e.g. research and development of prototypes of smart infusion systems with increased safety and reduced costs, or new smart devices for multiple intravenous infusions in critical setting, study of new extracorporeal oxygenators device and ECMO cannulae). Moreover, we are developing the research on neuro-monitoring on patient with artificial cardio-circulatory or respiratory support (e.g. studies about neurological prognostic factors, procedures for limiting the neurological complications of patients on ECMO for both cardiovascular and pulmonary causes).
