Reproductive Endocrinology, Infertility and Gender Medicine
Our Unit is devoted to the study of women's reproductive health according to the biopsychosocial model from adolescence to menopause. Relevant areas of expertise include functional conditions such as hypothalamic amenorrhea, premenstrual syndrome/menstrual migraine, climacteric syndrome, as well as organic diseases impairing reproduction and causing infertility. An additional area of expertise include sexual dysfunction across the reproductive life span. In each area, we conduct clinical trials, and other profit and no profit studies.
The mission of linking reproductive milestones to general women's health has helped us to implement multidisciplinary collaborations oriented to the study of gender medicine in order to assess the role of endogenous and exogenous sex steroids into the pathophysiology of many conditions displaying a sexual dimorphism. Finally, the availability of a certified laboratory for assisted reproduction allows collaborative research with basic scientists on stem cells and biomarkers of fertility.
